american lullaby
This one began its journey late one night. First verse walked on in with the chorus and remaining verses soon following - all a stab at sussing out the American landscape from an immigrant south of the border perspective. We have performed this one in various ways but settled here on the character's inner conversation captured through Allen's voice.
For psychic transmissions and transference, thanks to Nanci Griffith and Paul Simon. --James Lyrics © James Damico Sky is full, full of rain these thoughts are grey and wide. I carry you like a prayer across the great divide, across the great divide bajo los cielos under the skies hacia el sur para llegar heading south a la frontera ante mì the border before me con suenos de mi hogar, with dreams of my home con suenos de mi hogar with dreams of my home Hey there, America I’m calling out to you Lying neath your stars tonight singing this American lullaby Go charging down the hill A toda velocidad Future is fading fast Se desvanece el futuro Have we had our fill? ¿Nos basta el progreso, What of love & freedom will last? el amor, y la libertad? What of love & freedom will last? Bajo el cielo lleno de lluvia Beneath a sky full of rain Queda una mar gris There remains a grey sea en una oración te llevo I carry you like a prayer Vagando por el gran pais Wandering this big country Vagando por el gran pais |
