ghost valentineInspiration for this one came from a few sources -- my travels to Argentina, learning more about the desparecidos in Chile, Argentina, and much of South America, and the brilliant documentary, Nostalgia de la luz. The verses came quickly but couldn't locate chorus for a few weeks until my three-year old lent a hand. Sitting at his table, he placed a ghost sticker on a piece of paper full of stickers. He then asked me to choose a sticker from his collection. I peeled away a heart and this exchange ensued:
"Where should I put this one, Daniel?" "Next to the ghost." "Why?" "Even ghosts need a valentine, Dad." and there it was. --James lyrics © James Damico Soldiers, come with guns, come in silence, come in dead of night Come to snatch me from your arms, come to snuff out my life Decades come and go still searching for love in the Atacama sand Nothing but memories and histories flow through your hands Won’t you, won’t you be mine. Be my, be my ghost valentine our babies are all grown they got kids of their own Each and every night I pray, they got your soul, they got your corazon In our neighborhood, leaves fall from the tree Each one a floating kiss in the breeze from me Won’t you, won’t you be mine. Be my, be my ghost valentine Lean in, I’m always a whisper away 40 years and counting, as if a day Won’t you, won’t you be mine. Be my, be my ghost valentine Won’t you, won’t you be mine. Be my, be my ghost valentine |
