voodoo queenThis song is for my much-loved uncle who chose to leave this world too soon. He loved the blues and had a great sense of the bizarre. He was mystical and goofy and kind and compassionate. He equally loved Christian philosophy and Sponge Bob Squarepants. He was a tortured Roman Catholic turned Buddhist who loved the absurd. He had traveled to Haiti on a service trip many years ago and was intrigued by the culture so my husband and I visited a Voodoo Queen grave in New Orleans and poured his ashes on the grave and shared a drink. Safe travels, my friend. -- Anna
lyrics © Anna Hungerfield-Lynch I put your ashes on a Voodoo queen’s grave I think that would make you laugh With the queen at your back, you might feel more brave And find Jacob and borrow his staff Cause the world that you left, it tore you apart and you couldn’t see your way through The queen has her ways and she just might share And point out another way to you Come on voodoo queen, won’t you talk to me Or leave this family bereft Did he find his peace, won’t you talk to me I’ve given you all I have left I poured some tequila on a Voodoo queen’s grave I think that would get you high With the queen at your back, you might feel more sure And find Jesus and not walk on by Cause the world that you left, it was too dark you couldn’t find why to stay The queen has her ways and she just might share And show you how to go on in grey Come on voodoo queen, won’t you talk to me Or leave this family bereft Did he find his peace, won’t you talk to me I’ve given you all I have left Come on voodoo queen, won’t you talk to me Don't leave this family bereft Did he find his peace, won’t you talk to me I’ve given you all I have left |
